Oh dear. I do hope Goldie does not have it, or if she does, it was caught soon enough that surgery is an option. If you can, please comment again and let me know how Goldie is doing.

We once rescued a tortie we called Goldie (Goldie Toes was her full name) but she was a sweetie once we worked with her and got a home from the Humane Society. But we definitely have a house filled with cats who never really managed to become the sort of cats the average person would want as a housecat. I think having all these cats helped significantly when our beloved Fatty died, but I suspect his absence is going to be squeezing my heart for the rest of my life. Like everyone has one true love, I think many of us have one true cat. Adolph was my one true cat, I think. Maybe it won't be so bad but there are still moments I am sure I see him the corner of my eye and my heart soars for a second and then I realize it is Noodle, our other black and white cat.

Good luck to you with your kitties, Evelyn, and good wishes to Goldie.

Anita - thanx for sharing Adolph's story with the world. I ran across your page looking for pics of feline fibrosarcoma's. I think one of my rescue cats(Goldie)has it. She was a feral kitten I trapped about 4 years ago, but she never socialized up and couldn't be adopted out - she lives in her own bedroom with her litter mate Babs. We'll be visiting the vet this week to get an official diagnosis. From past experience, it seems to take years for the psychological sting to deaden when you lose one of those very special companion animals. Their space in your heart stays filled with their memory which only becomes sweeter with the passing of time. Glad you guys got to grow up together!

Oh, Bernie, thanks for telling me about Bandit. I think we all have a cat of a lifetime and Adolph was mine and Bandit was yours. :)

I think they are all waiting for us, healthy, happy and ready to pounce when they see us. It sounds like Bandit, Adolph and Cody would be a formidable cat team if they find each other beyond the Rainbow Bridge!

Christy, thanks for this comment. I still can't believe Adolph is gone. I wonder if it will ever seem real. 13 is a pretty good age for a cat, though, in my book, and it warms my heart to no end to know there was another poop-rolling, book-resenting cat out there! I'll also be sure to check out your blog. Books and cats are the sum of my life. :)

I come back to this entry and reread it occasionally, Lynda, and I cry too. Halloween was Adolph's holiday so it was very nice to see that just after his favorite day of the year, people were reading about him. They always go too soon but here's hoping your sweet kitty has many more years left!

I just ran across this page - quite by accident - I'm not even certain how at this point. I'm a bibliophile and a cat lover, too. A few years back my family lost our own special cat (he only lived to be 13) who had a long history of health issues but managed to rise above that with his sweet and silly ways. He was a bit of a miscreant at times, though.. I'm all too familiar with the poop burrito and the head-butting of books behaviors.

Thank you for sharing Adolph's story. you were blessed to have him and vice-versa.

I loved your eulogy to Adolf. It brought a tear to my eye and a smile to my face at the same time. Now, I am going to go hug my cat.
